Melvin is an immigration and litigation lawyer at Kahane Law Office in Calgary. His immigration experience includes NAFTA and Intra-company transfers, study permits, work permits, permanent residence, and citizenship applications. Melvin blogs regularly on various aspects of immigration law. 

 

At Kahane Law Office he represents individuals and businesses from various industries with temporary residency, permanent residency, and inadmissibility matters, as well as citizenship applications. 

 

 Melvin completed an LLM at Osgoode Law School in Toronto, attended University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, and earned a Bachelor of Laws from Catholic University Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela. Prior to his legal career Melvin worked as a Spanish school teacher in Atlanta, USA, policy analyst with Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada and Bilingual Inquiry Officer with the Ontario Government providing guidance and support to individuals and businesses with incorporation and business registration. 

 

Prior to joining Kahane Law office, Melvin articled at a family and immigration boutique law firm where he assisted clients with spousal and child support matters, custody and access issues, uncontested divorces, and separation agreements. Before relocating to Alberta, Melvin worked as an immigration analyst with Deloitte in Toronto, where he assisted with Federal Court litigation and a wide range of immigration services to clients from various industries, including engineering, hospitality, and information technology. 

 

Melvin is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. 

 

Outside of the office, Melvin enjoys hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, ice skating, or just enjoying an independent movie or trying exotic food at one of Calgary's many fine restaurants.
